CrossFit FAQs

1. What is the WOD?

WOD stands for "Workout of the Day." Typically, CrossFit affiliates post one WOD each day following the recommended training schedule of 3 days on/1 day off OR 5 days on/2 days off.

2. What if I can't use the recommended weight?

The great thing about CrossFit is infinitely scalable in order to make it attainable for your fitness level. Can't deadlift the recommended weight? scale it down to a weight that allows you to complete the workout yet so as it remains difficult within your standard of fitness.

3. Is the WOD my only workout?

Many crossfitters have been or still are competitive athletes who involve themselves in a variety of sport. However, if you work the WODs hard, you will find yourself at an improved level of fitness and may actually consider the WOD your sport. If you do chose to pursue another activity, be sure to balance your work/rest cycles and allow for recovery. Sometimes, you will need extra days off or to consider a WOD as "active rest" done at a lower intensity.

4. Am I too old? Too out of shape?

NO! Sure, the workout will be challenging, but that is the point of CrossFit. Since every workout is infinitely scalable it can be made to suit the skill level of virtually any individual. CrossFit has been made to suit the needs of kids, housewives, people who have never lifted a weight and the elite athlete.

5. As a female, will this bulk me up?

CrossFit will transform your body, how much so is dependent on you and the goals you have set for yourself.

6. What is the recommended diet that CrossFit supports?

The Zone Diet or the Paleo Diet are the 2 recommended lifestyles that crossfitters follow.

7. I've been told that squats and deadlifts are bad for me, so why is it that you do so many of them?

Many of the exercises that have a bad rap these days have it for one reason...people have been doing them wrong! When performed correctly, the squat has been shown to HELP many joint problems, not cause them. And, the deadlift is a vital move for lower back and core strength and for learning proper lifting mechanics.

That's why we put a lot of emphasis on learning and practice before a workout. You wouldn't give someone with no prior training a pair of boxing gloves and throw them in the ring, would you? Of course not...and neither would we!
